In my previous career I was a hotel General Manager for several years, working at various locations across the UK. The demanding hours and having a young family motivated me to seek a better work-life balance. In 2016, I decided to become a franchisee.
I started my franchise from the ground up, so I had to build a clientele from scratch. With the help of Stockcheck HQ and client referrals, I managed to fill my diary within 18 months. The best part of being a franchisee is the flexibility to choose my own working hours and days. Family time is important to me, and this role has allowed me to achieve an excellent work-life balance. Each day is unique as I visit clients all over the North of England. Being a franchisee means running my own business while having the incredible support of HQ at all times. There are not many dislikes, except when clients are unprepared with the necessary paperwork for stocktake day.
Being involved in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, running hotels throughout the UK. I needed a change in my life because I was spending too much time at work for an unappreciative boss. I wanted to be my own boss and haven’t looked back since.
Maintaining a consistent, friendly, and professional approach at all times is the key to attracting and retaining clients.

When I’m not involved in stocktaking, I have a passion for cricket and still play for my local club at Spofforth CC. I cherish quality time with my family, which I now get to do more often.
If I could go back in time, I would tell my former self to take more calculated risks and not let others discourage me from pursuing my goals.
