I decided to become a Stockcheck Franchisee because, after several years in hospitality management, I realized that I was more interested in the accounting side of the business than front-of-house operations. Producing P&Ls excited me more than dealing with daily front-of-house issues. Additionally, I craved more flexibility with my working hours and relished the idea of facing different challenges each day in diverse environments.
As for my Stockcheck business, I started in 1990, and over the years, it has grown consistently (excluding the challenging Covid years). In 1998, I hired my first employee, and now, with 33 years of experience, I lead a team of five people. I can honestly say that I’ve never regretted a single day. Our client base is incredibly diverse, ranging from British Legions to 5-star hotels. The variety of our work keeps each day unique, as we serve independent operators with a single pub and larger operators with up to 20 restaurants. We work in various locations, including theatre’s, leisure facilities, concert halls, café bars, gastro pubs, hotels, sports facilities, and the list goes on.
Before joining Stockcheck, my background was as a general manager of restaurants and bars for about five years. My career started as a beauty therapist, but after a few years, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me.
When I first started operating my Stockcheck Franchise, I faced some challenges, especially with marketing, which was not my strong suit at the time. However, Stockcheck has since evolved, and we now have more business than we can handle, allowing us to be more selective.
What sets us apart from the stocktaking competition is our unwavering commitment to hard work and providing the absolute best service. Being a Stocktaker Birmingham & East Midlands, we strive to help our clients grow and manage their businesses, drawing from our extensive experience. We approach our work as forensic stocktakers, diving deep into the details of the business. The fact that some of our clients have been with us for over 25 years suggests that we must be doing something right. We view our work as more than just number-crunching; it’s about providing valuable consultancy services.
A noteworthy experience while stocktaking is the advice we give to clients. Our insights can make the difference between their business thriving or not. Over the years, we’ve encountered various situations, from homeless individuals accessing cellars to steal beer to managers manipulating systems for personal gain. Every day brings new challenges.
As for my interests outside of stocktaking, I must admit that I rarely find the time for other pursuits.
If I could go back in time and offer my former self advice, I’d simply say, “Do it all over again.”
