I gained my experience in Hotel management in a variety of different types of hospitality venues as part of my 5-year General Manager apprenticeship, ranging from small regional Hotels, to large London international venues…. and included a year at a fantastic 5* Chateau Hotel located on the French Cote D’Azur.
After working all over the UK in many city centre and country house hotels, together with my wife, who I had met during a memorable period whilst training at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, we moved to the Yorkshire Dales and opened our first of 3 restaurants in a “Honey Pot” Tourist location in the heart of Wensleydale.
We enjoyed building our businesses by opening a further 2 café/restaurants in the area, but as a self-employed hospitality operator this can be challenging and hard work at the best of times! So, when family life beckoned, we felt it was time to look in a different direction and I decided to take on a Stocktaking Franchise, in the Yorkshire area, servicing clients and imparting some of my knowledge gained over the years. This is very rewarding, particularly when my advice and recommendations help clients to increase their profitability and improve the running of their own businesses. Having become involved with the Stockcheck head office regularly, I eventually sold my franchise and joined the tight knit Stockcheck team on a permanent basis, leading to a directorship.
The rest is history and although I enjoy a hands-on approach helping and supporting our network of Franchisee Stocktakers, I don’t miss the associated long and unsociable hours involved with the Hospitality sector, as I now enjoy sailing my Laser class dinghy and dabbling with photography whenever I can.
Many of our existing Franchisees have similar working life experiences and this has proved to be the ideal background for becoming a Stockcheck Franchisee.
